Dr.Ing. Michael Loupis has 37 years of experience as a professional engineer in the areas of constructions, automation, electronics, nature based solutions and environmental risk management. He has held the positions of EDP Manager, R+D Manager, Assistant Technical Director, Managing Director and Project Manager in various companies in Greece, Cyprus, UK and Germany. Dr. Loupis has participated in R+D teams of over 100 R+D projects and he has worked as an expert (evaluator, reviewer, rapporteur) for the IST (ICT), GROWTH (NMP), CRAFT, BRITE-EURAM and T-Telecom Programmes. He has served three terms as Project Technical Assistant (PTA) for DG Research (23 projects since 1994) and as a Consultant for the Greek Ministries of Education (EPEAEK), Economics (InfoSoc) and Public Works (KED) and the Regional Governments of Attiki and Sterea Ellada . He has worked as a Researcher for the National Technical University of Athens, University of Patras and University of Cyprus. Since April 2008 he is an Associate Professor at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Recently, he has coordinated the projects TAVAC (Clean-Sky), THERMICOOL (Clean-Sky), RECOMAR(GR-Erevno), MICROGRAV (GR-Erevno), NLP-Theatre (GR-Erevno), NESTOR (GSRI-Attiki Region) and TRANVIC (GR-Erevno) and has contributed to the projects RENERGISE (Clean-Sky), Intellicont (Clean-Sky), Helmet (EGNSS), ELECTRIFY (GR-Erevno), PREMIERE (Horizon Europe) and Operandum (Horizon).
He holds a Diploma in Electrical Engineering (U. of Thessaloniki), an MSc in Microprocessor Engineering (U. of Bradford), a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (National Technical U. of Athens) and an MSc in Quality Assurance (Greek Open University). He has attended long term seminars in Artificial Intelligence (Stanford), Regional Development and Planning (Pantion University), European Affairs (European Commission) and Management (ELKEPA/Greece, JETRO/Japan). He is a Senior Member of IEEE (USA), Member of the IET (UK) and a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece, the Greek Computer Society, the Greek Association of Computer Engineers and the Greek Union of Mechanical & Electrical Engineers. He is a Chartered Engineer, at the highest professional level, for Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Environmental and Energy studies (Class C). He is currently serving as an EU Climate Pact Ambassador and a Member of the Council for Research and Innovation of the Region of Sterea Ellada
