Short CV
Dr. Vassilis Stathopoulos is a Chemist, Professor, and President of the Department of Agricultural Development, Agri-Food and Natural Resources Management. He received his PhD from the Department of Chemistry of the University of Ioannina in 2001 and subsequently worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. He is the Chairman of the Regional Council for Research and Innovation of the Region of Central Greece and Director of the Laboratory of Chemistry and Materials Technology of the Evripos Complex of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
V. Stathopoulos has many years of experience in managing and implementing competitive European projects (HORIZON MSCA, H2020, FP7, FP6, STREP, RFCS), national projects and privately funded projects. In this context, he has overall raised significant funding from competitive resources in the field of materials and their environmental and energy applications. The subject of his research activity is the science and technology of materials and coatings with emphasis on their applications in energy, heterogeneous environmental catalysis, the environment and in general in the protection of natural resources in the light of the circular economy and industrial symbiosis. He has established close collaborations with major universities in Europe and welcomes on an annual basis for experimental research and training doctoral candidates from European Universities.
Today, 3 European research projects are being implemented, 3 of a national nature, and an educational infrastructure project is being coordinated for the entire Evripos Complex. It is also implementing 2 projects funded by the Recovery Fund with visiting researchers of high prestige and international recognition.
For the past 10 years, he has been participating in Marie Curie doctoral research fellowship programs. Starting this year, a project is being implemented that concerns the application of zero-emission environmental technologies and a circular economy in the water and food industries.
He has dealt with issues of environmental characterization and inactivation of industrial by-products, while during his career in the private sector he has been responsible for an accredited laboratory (ISO 17025) for chemical analysis and environmental testing. He is the author of over 100 scientific publications (with more than 3,600 citations, h-index 32), 5 book chapters, 2 patents and over 185 papers at international and national conferences.
